Where Are Women's Rights in the Workforce?

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 specifically required equal treatment of individuals regardless of gender. This meant qualified women should be considered for hiring and promotion if they match the job requirements as well as a man.  The oldest and most accepted definition and/or synonym for the word sex is gender.

Recently, the "educated" members of the Supreme Court and Congress decided to redefine the word sex from the previously accepted gender to indicate terms of private intimacy preferences. In essence destroying the gender equality portion of the Civil Rights Act and replacing it with behavior-based concepts. What does this mean for the working woman now?
  • Since gender is not an issue, does it mean wages and job options will recede to pre-1963 when equal pay for equal work was enacted?
  • Since sexual orientation is now the issue, does it mean that sexual harassment may increase over what it was in the 1980's and become even more prevalent in the future?
  • Since gender equality is not important, will women lose their jobs and  be forced to return to pre-WWII stay-at-home status?
  • Since gender is gone as an issue, what is next to lose -  women's right to vote which was gained back in 1920?
What has happened to business leaders saying workforce diversity is important for idea generation and problem solving?  Where are all the so-called feminists hiding that allowed this to happen? Is everyone so focused on face masks and other protest actions that what has already been gained is allowed to slowly die away?

Obviously there are not enough women on the Supreme Court or in Congress to protect female rights. Will women's right continue to go backwards as Twitter video clams?   Perhaps it is not about gender, maybe it is an attempt to increase lawsuits against businesses?  Maybe the reasoning is business and personal values are not as important to economy as a backlogged legal system is...

Pray fro women's rights, not only in USA, but everywhere around the world.  Taliban rule will be 'a long slow death' for women,

Success Law 7: The Law of Mind

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

Last time, we left off at the law of correspondence. The seventh and final law is the law of Mind - or sometimes called the law of mental equivalency. This is in many respects a summary of all the previous laws. Your thoughts charged with emotion and held with tenacity will objectify themselves and become your reality. Thoughts are things! It was defined well by Earl Nightingale as the strangest secret, when he said “you become what you think about.”

Thoughtfulness is a special skill that when practiced rigorously will bring powerful results into your life. When you are living the law of mind you literally take control of your life and all aspects of it by controlling your thinking. It is ‘mind control’ and you are the one doing it. Your thoughts direct you and your outcomes in the direction you desire because you are controlling the outer by controlling the inner.

Now, think about your career and business success. Is it what you would like it to be? Are you truly doing what you want to do and using your talents or strengths in a way that gives you pleasure and great productivity? Are you accomplishing the goals you wanted to accomplish and enjoying all the commensurate rewards that go with that type of achievement? You can immediately begin to shape or reshape the direction and outcomes of your life by directing your thinking in a proven, results oriented manner. With a competent coach or mentor who will encourage you, this process and the enjoyment of it can become yours much sooner.

Thank you for joining me in from the beginning of my Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success series of posts. I hope you’ve enjoyed the insights we’ve shared for your career and business success. Until we meet again with a new series of posts, adios amigos!

Success Law 6: The Law of Correspondence

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

The Law of Time says that if you’re having fun, time goes by very fast. If you’re not having fun, time drags like a three year old pulling her dolly behind her on the way upstairs to bed when everyone else gets to stay up. It just isn’t fair. We must be having fun because since my last post, the days have flown by like the blink of an eye and here we are nearing our last part in this series. Amazing! (Now, don’t get mad, but I was just pulling your leg about the Law of Time. It sounded good, but there isn’t one that I’m aware of. But maybe I could invent that one. Are you still with me?)

We have covered some fabulous material on our way to the finale, haven’t we? These seven laws, five of which we’ve covered thus far, are like good friends or amigos. They are speaking to us in familiar, direct ways to catch our attention and joust our minds towards the recognition that we will benefit from each and all of them. And they want to be part of our everyday success in our career and business if we’ll invite them to join us.

Just as a quick review we’ve looked at the law of Control, the law of Cause and Effect, the law of Belief, the law of Expectation and of course the law of Attraction. That’s the one that inspired the name for this series and still continues to work even though the hullabaloo about the book has passed. If you’ve missed any of the earlier posts, you can access them in the archives using the type of the law. They aren’t really dusty yet and they will give you a better coherence of thought from start to finish.

The sixth universal law in this series is the law of Correspondence. Briefly stated it says that what you are on the inside will be reflected by what you show on the outside. Your outer world, how you dress, groom yourself, the way you keep your home, car and other physical things will be a direct reflection of how you keep you mental world, your thoughts. Everything in your life moves from the inner to the outer. If you are calm, peaceful and self assured on the inside you will reflect that in how you handle everyday situations no matter how rushed, frantic or scattered they may become.

Your outer world of health, financial achievements, relationships and goal accomplishments will correspond to what is being focused on and related to in your mental or inner world. As you are within, so you are without in every way, all the time. When your inner world is balanced, focused, unstressed and happy your whole outer world will tend to reflect these anchors down to the smallest detail. But the opposite also holds true. Here’s an example.

As I look at my desk and my office I realize that the physical move I made almost months ago has put much of my life in disarray and it is disconcerting to me. But I also know that if I persevere and continue in a disciplined lifestyle my life will continue to improve for the better. Consistently practicing those five mental laws we’ve reviewed earlier I will return my desk, my office and every part of my life back to a harmonious and fruitful place again. It is happening if I can get that law of time to cooperate with me and stop moving so fast.

As time flies by, join me next time for the seventh and final law that guarantees your career and business success.

Success Law 5: The Law of Attraction

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

Since we have covered law four, let’s talk about the attractor factor of the law that has gained world wide recognition and acclaim via a certain book and video. The law of attraction is proven, guaranteed to work and is already working 24-7-365 whether we know it, like it or not. You are a walking, talking living magnet attracting to you people, situations and events in harmony with your dominant and prevailing thoughts.

You know the old saying, “birds of a feather flock together”. Everything in your life you have attracted to you because of how you think. The career, the jobs, the people, the blessings, the good, the bad and the ugly all are a result of what you have thought and attracted to you.

In music it is called the law of sympathetic resonance. If you have two pianos in the same room and you strike the cord of ‘C’ on one, that same cord on the other piano will be vibrating because of this law. Amazing!

Likewise you will tend to attract and meet people with the same level of ‘mental vibration’ as you are living and exuding. Remember, all effects or causation (what we see and manifest) is mental and always begins with a thought. Your entire world, beautiful or ugly, happy or sad, fun or tormented, positive or negative is of your own making. You were and continue to be the creator of your own little universe.

You can be more, do more and have more because you control and you change who you are and the direction you are moving. The more emotion and vitality you put into your thoughts the quicker you bring them into reality. You can attract new people, new situations and new things just as quickly as you change and direct your thoughts in a new way. But you must believe you are worthy of becoming, doing and having or they will vanish as quickly as they appear. That’s the unknown part of this law that many are unaware of or refuse to accept.

Expectations and attraction can become part of your positive life tools (or threads) for career and business success. Use them well and be amazed at what comes your way. In our final posts we’ll look at the laws that make and mold us and the success we can enjoy. Until then, consider what attracts you to others and others to you.

Success Law 4: The Law of Expectation

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

Have you ever looked closely at a beautiful oriental tapestry? These masterpieces are made up of many different threads of various colors and shades all carefully, artfully and painstakingly woven together to make a well designed and eye catching visual. Although all the threads are different they may have very similar and complementary colors to make the collective masterpiece an integrated whole. The same is true for these seven laws that we will continue reviewing now.

Each law is different, yet may relate closely to and support another so that they are like identical twins. Twins that are very similar in looks, yet unique in their own way. With that in mind lets look at more laws that can dramatically impact your career and business success.

What you expect strongly and confidently is what you receive. The law of expectation is closely related to the Law of Belief that we previously reviewed. The comedian Flip Wilson used to say, “what you see is what you get”, and the law of expectation holds a similar truth. In most situations, what you expect is what you get even if it isn’t really what you want.

Successful people have a confident and self assured level of expectancy and they typically see, enjoy and live what those expectations bring them. They expect to do well in their career and business life, they expect to be healthy and enjoy life, they expect to have good relationships and they are seldom disappointed. You know people like that and perhaps you are one of those people.

Likewise, those with a negative expectancy also live out and receive what they expect. If they expect trouble, conflict, problems, ill health, poor relationships these are typically what they find, bearing out their expectations, even if they desperately want something better and different. You probably know people like that too. They are all around us.

Who Wove Your Mental Tapestry? The expectations of those around us, especially in our younger years, have a profound impact on our lives and what we manifest. There are at least four areas (people) where expectations mold and shape you either consciously or subconsciously. They are your parents; your teachers or boss; your expectations of others, including siblings, spouse, children and those you manage at work; your expectations of yourself. Let’s examine one of the most important of those four.

If your parents expected you to do well and voiced and lived those expectations with you their actions positively and powerfully shaped who you became. Likewise if they had negative expectations or no clear expectations these attitudes and the following actions shaped you just as well. These expectations tend to have a life of their own and will many times live on even after the deaths of our parents. They are like threads of thought woven into our mental tapestry shaping, coloring and determining who we are and what we become.

You can, however, reshape your expectations over time. Coaching and mentoring clients I have worked with have seen almost miraculous results by using positive affirmations and visualizations on a consistent basis. This isn’t because of my brilliance, but a resounding witness of these laws working for those who work them. This type of change is within your control and direction but you must make a concerted and consistent effort to consciously reframe old negative expectations with those that are new, positive and truthful.

Check back soon to review law five on the attractor factor. Happy weaving until then.

Success Law 3: The Law of Belief

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

Just like a first class meal at a five star restaurant these postings are spaced so you can dine slowly and digest as you go. You’ve had the first and second courses and now you should be ready to enjoy our next course which is another fine mini repast for your distinguished palette. You are hungry aren’t you? May I be your maitre d’?

The third law of career and business success is the Law of Belief. It declares that whatever you believe with emotion or feeling becomes your reality. The more intensely you believe something the more it will become true for you. Your beliefs whether wise or foolish, positive or negative will become deeply imbedded in both your words and your actions and will manifest themselves in the results you see.

Over 35 years ago I heard a wise teacher share the following truth. “You are today who you are, what you are and where you are because of your believing. You will be tomorrow where your believing takes you. No person can achieve more than he can believe and no one can believe more than what he is taught.” So, where are you? Where has your believing brought you in your career and business success thus far? Is it where you want to be? If not, it can be changed.

Belief acts as a filter causing you to filter out things you don’t want to see or hear. Typically, it then welcomes those things that already agree with what you believe. The truth is, you don’t believe what you see, you see what you believe, be it fact or fantasy, right or wrong.

The sad fact is that many beliefs that we hold so firmly are far from the truth. They have been given to us or even forced on us beginning at a very early age by a variety of sources many of whom are well meaning (like parents or teachers) but nonetheless not always right or well informed. If you are not consciously and consistently holding your beliefs up for careful consideration you are prone to being one of the masses blindly led by the nose.

As a business coach and mentor I see this frequently with the people I work with. They have engrained a belief, an attitude or a mental picture that is hindering or even crushing their potential, but they can’t recognize it. Helping them see this erroneous belief and breaking free from its death grip can be challenging because it has become part of who they are. Slowly as they begin to trust me and know that I have their best interest in mind they are able to mentally detach themselves (at least for a moment) to see what this belief is doing to their progress or lack thereof. Freeing yourself from self-limiting beliefs can be like unshackling a prisoner from years or decades of imprisonment. To use a well known phrase, “free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we’re free at last.” Are you ready to be free?

People have one of two basic views or beliefs about life which includes both career and business. Either they have a benevolent or good view of the world or they have a malevolent or bad view of the world. Those who have a benevolent view believe that they have control of their lives and the direction they are going. They feel good about themselves and expect to see and enjoy good from the people and circumstances they encounter. They are optimistic and generally positive about who they are and where they are headed. They have an upbeat mental attitude and they are able to respond positively to challenges in their life.

Those with a malevolent view have a negative and pessimistic view of life. They feel that the cards are stacked against them, they don’t get any lucky breaks and that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer no matter what. They see injustice and misfortune everywhere and don’t have a take charge and move ahead attitude. They typically find themselves with others just like them and thus promote a breeding ground for failure for all. Misery loves company and they have plenty of it.

If you believe you are meant to succeed and you have a destiny to fulfill and your beliefs are built around this personal vision you will press on and move forward despite detours, hardships and unforeseeable circumstances. You will have the career and business success you believe is rightfully yours. And this type of belief works every time as is documented in the lives of thousands of people from centuries ago till the present.

With only a few laws left in this series we’ll have to move quickly to cover the final four laws but we will get it done. Come back after you’ve digested this mental meal and be ready to dine again. The secret will be revealed. Bon Appetit!

Success Law 2: The Law of Cause and Effect

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

In our first post in this series of seven laws, we discussed universal laws - mental laws that impact our lives each and every day. Aren’t you glad you did that? Now that you’re up to date and raring to go let’s begin the next law.

The Law of Causality as Socrates referred to it is also known to us as the Law of Cause and Effect. Some have called it ‘the Iron Law’ of the universe and it states that everything happens for a reason. Everything! There are no accidents because we live in a world governed by laws and this is one of the most important ones. Everything happens for a reason, not by chance but by law, even if we don’t recognize or understand it. There are specific causes for career and business success just as there are specific causes for career and business failure. Nothing happens by chance or luck. Period.

If there is an effect (an outcome) in your life that you want more of you simply trace it back to its causes and repeat the causes. As an example, if you have recently been singled out by your boss for a raise, a job promotion with recognition and awards you can look closely at what you’ve done over the past months or years to see what were the causes that led to these positive outcomes (effects). There will always be a reason or reasons (causes) that brought about these effects. Always!

A wonderful Scottish proverb says, “it is better to light one wee candle than to curse the darkness”. Just as the law works on the positive side it also works on the negative. If you are seeing effects or outcomes that are not what you want the same steps will work to help unveil and shed light on the problem (the causes). This will give you a recognition and clarity of what you need to change. This is not an easy examination, but the end results of changing the wrong causes can lead to a happy ending with new and better effects (outcomes). That’s what you want, isn’t it?

You are ‘the cause’ and your life is ‘the effect’. But let’s dig a little deeper into the cause. All causation is mental. Your thoughts are the causes for all of the conditions in your life. Some will argue vehemently against that truth but arguing doesn’t negate any law. It is what it is. If you have parts of your life (perhaps the whole thing) that really stink, well, look in the mirror or dig deep into your mind. There is a phrase, “stinking thinking”, that might just apply here.

Thoughts are causes and conditions are effects. Everything you are or ever will be is the result of your thoughts. Where your thoughts go and stay (the throne or the throne room), there too go you, be it good or bad. What you are reaping today is a result (an outcome or effect) of what you’ve sown in the past. When you change the quality or direction of your thinking, you’ll change the quality or direction of your life. This law of sowing and reaping is another subset of the greater law of cause and effect.

Thoughts are the seeds of your words and your deeds. When you think it, harbor it, incubate it and give it time, you’ll reap that result; you’ll see that fruit, right or wrong, positive or negative. Biblical wisdom says, “…for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Typically, what you sow (just like a seed), brings back more - much more of the same. When you put a kernel of corn in the ground you don’t expect to get just one kernel back. It comes back multiplied if it’s a healthy kernel and in good growing conditions. Sow a thought, reap an attitude. Sow an attitude, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap a character. Sow a character, reap a lifestyle. Thoughts are things, powerful things. What thoughts are you sowing today?

Thoughts are things, powerful things. What thoughts are you sowing to cause the effects you really want and not the effects you want to avoid?

We’ll discover more of these seven laws that build on these first two in our future posts. Remember to sow the seeds of a good cause (your career and business success) to reap the reward of a good effect (happiness, peace of mind, a lasting legacy). Happy sowing and reaping until our next post.

Success Law 1: The Law of Control

Seven Laws that Guarantee Your Career and Business Success

Let’s face it, ‘the Secret’ was and is no big secret. Or perhaps, it really is! Perhaps it’s much bigger and more of a secret than what we’ve even begun to recognize. If you consider that most people don’t have a clue about the great universal laws, the ‘life laws’ that make it all work 24-7-365, then perhaps it really is a secret. What am I referring to?

Unless you’ve been hibernating under a rock or visiting another planet for the past year you’ve no doubt heard about the book, the DVD, the rage called “The Secret”. The focus of “The Secret” is what is referred to as the Law of Attraction, one of the universal laws that have power above and beyond what mere mortal might recognize.

Now believe me, I’m not here to poke fun of, make light of nor jest about a subject as strangely powerful as the Law of Attraction. Why? Because your current and future career and business success is yoked to this and six other timeless laws that we are going to uncover and explore in the posts ahead. Let the adventure begin.

Are You A Criminal? Yes, most of us are criminals, not of our own conscious decision but out of ignorance, indecision or incorrect decisions. We’re all breaking the laws! Let me explain.

We all know about the natural laws and the consequences of breaking them. You know about the law of gravity. You can be in Dallas, Texas or London, England at 7:00 in the morning or 7:00 at night, on Monday or on Friday, and that law works. It’s a universal law and is not a respecter of persons.

When you jump out of a 20-story hotel window at either of those locations (even if your name is Paris Hilton) that law works and the consequences can be severe. And there are many other natural laws that work with the same mathematical exactness and scientific precision as the law of gravity. But there are also mental laws that work with the same efficacy.

Mental laws like natural laws work 100% of the time for everyone with the same kind of equality. You can be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company or the newest hire in a corporation of 30,000 people; these laws work for one and all just the same. Let’s start by examining the Law of Control.

Everyday and every moment of the day you are consciously or subconsciously determining your career and business success (or failure) by your recognition and adherence to the Law of Control. Most people are relinquishing control in one or more areas of their life to someone or something else. They are saying by their actions that they don’t really want or can’t take control of that aspect of their life.

The Law of Control (or locus of control theory) is determined by how you view yourself in your environment and your relationships. It is generally agreed that most of your feelings of stress, tension, anxiety and even physical illness are due to your feelings of being out of control about some area of your life. You will feel positive about yourself to the degree you feel in control of your life. Likewise, you will feel negative to the degree you feel out of control or losing control to some person or outside force in your life.

You can always tell how well you are obeying or disobeying these universal laws by your results. Live by them, harmonize with them and your life will appear charmed, magical and as some might say, lucky. Ignore them, forget them or blatantly try to side step them and you’ll suffer the consequences no matter how “good” you might be. These laws are not partial to gender, age, culture, religion, education or any other factors that might sway the minds of men. They are neutral and impartial to all. Breaking these laws consciously or subconsciously will only break you.

Next time we’ll continue our investigation of more of these seven immutable laws that impact your career and business success everyday. Until then, stay in control and attract what you really want…health, wealth and peace of mind.
